Aaron Otteman, Exploration Manager

A native of Pinedale, Wyoming, Aaron Otteman received two Associates degrees from Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, WY. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in geology from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.  Aaron then moved to Alaska where, after a stint of roughnecking on the North Slope, he took a job with the Minerals Division at the United States Geological Survey in Anchorage.  Subsequently, Aaron moved back to Wyoming to complete his Masters of Science Degree in Geology at the University of Wyoming. 

Upon completion of his Masters, Aaron gained employment with ExxonMobil in Houston, TX.  While at Exxon, he worked a variety of areas and disciplines, including offshore exploration in Colombia, South America and the mid-Caspian Basin, Azerbaijan and offshore production in California in the Santa Barbara channel.  Additionally, Aaron worked in Upstream Technical Support for the Exploration Company supporting  geologic modeling software and he worked in the Business Analysis Group, part of the Exploration Company’s Corporate Planning section.

Aaron subsequently left his Senior Geologist position at ExxonMobil and moved back to Wyoming where he took the position of Geoscience Manager with a small independent oil and gas company.  In this position, Aaron oversaw geological activities in the Green River Basin, Great Divide Basin and Powder River Basin and worked exploration and farm out ventures in the Bighorn, Washakie, and Wind River Basins of Wyoming, as well as ventures in Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, and Alaska.

Aaron joined Wold Oil Properties as Exploration Manager in February, 2009. He is a member of both the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Wyoming Geological Association (WGA).
